The numerator of a fraction is 5 less than the denominator .If 2 is added to the numerator the fraction is equal to 1/4 . What
is the original fraction ?

fraction= (x-5)/x

(x-5+2)/(x+2)=4/5

5(x-3)=4(x+2)

5x-15=4x+8

5x-4x=8+15

x=23

numerator=x-5=23-5=18

denominator=x=23

fraction=18/23
