Let the denominator be ' x '

The numerator will be ' x - 3 ' .

Therefore ,,,, the original fraction is :

 \frac{ x - 3}{x}

According to the question ,,,

 =  >  \:  \:  \frac{3(x - 3)}{x + 20}  =  \frac{1}{8}  \\ \\   \frac{3x - 9}{x + 20}  =  \frac{1}{8}  \\  \\  8(3x - 9) = x + 20 \\  \\ 24x - 72 = x + 20 \\  \\ 23x = 92 \\  \\ x = 4

 =  >  \:  \: x - 3  = 4 - 3 = 1

Hence,,

the original fraction is

 \frac{1}{4}
