Step-by-step explanation:

Let the denominator of the rational no. be x.

Then, numerator (n)=x−4

Add 1 to both numerator and denominator,

Denominator = x+1 and Numerator =x−4+1=x−3

 =  >  \frac{x - 3}{ x + 1}  =  \frac{1}{8}

 =  > 8x - 24 = x + 1

 = 7x = 25

x =  \frac{25}{7}

numerator \:  =  \frac{25}{7}  - 4 =  \frac{25 - 28}{7}  =  \frac{ - 3}{7}

rational \: number \:  =  \frac{ - 3}{7}  \times  \frac{7}{25}  =  \frac{ - 3}{25}

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the denominator be= d

then, numerator = d-4

Rational number = d-4/d

If 1 is added to both the numerator and denominator,

Then, numerator= d-4 +1

Denominator = d+1

d-4 +1/ d+1 = 1/2

d-3 = 1/2 (d+1)

d-3 = d+1 /2

(d-3)2 = d+1

2d-6 = d+1

2d-d = 1+6

d = 7

Rational no. = 7-4 /7

=3/7

VERIFY-

3+1/ 7+1

=4/8 or 1/2
