the numerator of a rational number is less than its denominator by 3 if the normal later became three times and the denominator is increased by 20 the new number became 1 by 8 find the original number​

Answer:

let the deno be p, then num is p- 3

then the number = (p- 3)/p

now num becomes 3 times = 3×(p-3) and deno becomes p + 20

So 3(p-3)/(p+20) = 1/8

8×3×(p-3) = p+20

24p - 72 = p +20

24p - p = 20+72

23p = 92

p=4

numerator = p -3=4-3 = 1

So original number = 1/4 Ans
