Step-by-step explanation:

given: numerator is 1 less than denominator

so, let: denominator= x

then, numerator= x-1

the fraction= x-1/x

now, 1 is added to both numerator and denominator..

then, x-1+1/x+1= x/x+1

so, x/x+1= 7/8 (given)

by solving above equation...

x/x+1= 7/8

by cross multiplying...

8(x)= 7(x+1)

8x= 7x+7

so, 8x-7x=7

therefore, x= 7

so, fraction= x-1/x= 7-1/7= 6/7

so, fraction= 6/7

hope it helps you!

Let the denominator of the fraction be x.

 \frac{x - 1}{x}

Then 1 should be added to the fraction.

 \frac{x - 1 + 1}{x + 1}  =  \frac{7}{8}

Cancel -1 and +1 in the numerator.

 \frac{x}{x + 1}  =  \frac{7}{8}

 \frac{x}{x}  =  \frac{7}{8}  - 1 \\  \\  \frac{x}{x}  =  \frac{7}{8}  -  \frac{8}{8}  \\  \frac{x}{x}  =  \frac{ - 1}{8}

Now as Numerator is 1 less than x , we have to:

 \frac{ - 1 - 1}{8} =  \frac{ - 2}{8}

Note: Not very sure about the answer.
