The numertor of a rational number is 3 less than its denominator. If the denominator is increased by 5 we get the rational number 1/2. Find the rational number

Numerator=x-3.
Denominator =x+5
X-3\x+5 (given in the question)
X-3/x+5 =1/2
2(x-3)=x+5
2x-6=x+5
2x-x=6+5
X=11
Rational number = 8/16= 1/2
