Given : building a rectangular deck around the outside of their circular pool.

To Find : combined area of the deck and the pool if the deck is (2x+3) units wide by (5x + 6) units long

area of the pool is 3x² + 7x + 6 , what is the area of just the deck

Solution:

Area of rectangle = length * width

deck is (2x+3) units wide by (5x + 6) units long

Length = 5x + 6

width = 2x + 3

combined area of the deck and the pool   = (5x + 6)(2x + 3)

= 10x² + 27x  + 18

area of the pool is 3x² + 7x + 6

area of just the deck  = 10x² + 27x  + 18 - ( 3x² + 7x + 6)

= 7x² + 20x  + 12
