Given:

Distance of object from plane mirror, d= 4cm

To Find:

Distance  between object and image

Solution:

We know that,

  • The distance of object from the plane mirror is always equal to the distance of image from plane mirror.

Now, according to question

Distance of image from plane mirror= d

\rule{190}{1}

Let the distance between object and image be D

So,

\longrightarrow\rm{D=d+d}

\longrightarrow\rm{D=2d}

\longrightarrow\rm{D=2(4)}

\longrightarrow\rm\green{D=8\:cm}

Hence, the distance  between object and image is 8 cm.

Additional Information

Mirror-

Mirror is a polished surface of glass from which all the light is reflected.

Types of mirror-

Plane Mirror

These are mirrors whose reflecting surface is plane.

Spherical Mirror

These are mirrors whose reflecting surface is spherical.

Spherical mirrors are of 2 types-

Concave Mirror

The mirror which have concave or hollow reflecting surface is called concave mirror.

Convex Mirror

The mirror which have convex or bulging reflecting surface is called convex mirror.

Identification of Mirrors-

a) If the image formed by the mirror is of same size as that of object for different positions of the object, then the mirror is plane mirror.

b) If the image formed behind the mirror is longer than the object, then the mirror is concave mirror.

c) If the image formed by the mirror is diminished for all positions of the object, then the mirror is convex mirror.
