Answer:

Given :

Initial odometer reading=2000km

Final odometer reading=2400km

Total distance= Final distance- Initial distance

Total distance= Final distance- Initial distance=2400-200=400km

Total time=8h

Average speed =?

Formula to be used :

Average speed= Total Distance/Total time

Average speed= Total Distance/Total timeAverage speed in Km/hr

Average speed=400/8

=50 km/hr

Average Speed in m/s:

1km/hr=5/18 m/s

∴50km/hr=50x5/18=250/18=13.88m/s

Given:

  • Initial reading of odometer = 2000 km
  • Final reading of odometer = 2400 km
  • Time taken for the trip = 8 hours

To find:

→ Speed in km/hr and m/s

Solution:

The difference in the odometer reading from the start to the end of the trip indicates the distance of the trip.

So, Distance travelled = 2400 km - 2000 km

Distance = 400 km

We know that:

Speed = Distance ÷ Time

Speed = 400 km ÷ 8 hr

【Speed = 50 km/hr】

Now for finding speed in m/s;

Multiply the speed obtained in km/hr with 5/18

Speed = (50 × 5) ÷ 18

Speed = 250 ÷ 18

Speed = 13.89 m/s

∴ Speed in km hr⁻¹ = 50 km hr⁻¹

Speed in m s⁻¹ = 13.89 m s⁻¹
