The odometer of a car reads 67931.0 km when the clock shows the time 8.30 PM. What is the distance moved by the car 10.10PM, The odometer reading has changed to 70962.0 km?

a) Calculate the speed of the car in km/min during this time.

b) Express this speed in km/h also.

The speed of car in :

i] km/min

ii] km/h

Given :

  • odometer at starting, o = 67931.0 km
  • odometer at end , p = 70962.0 km
  • time of start = 8:30 Am
  • time of end = 10:10 Pm

Formula To be applied:

  • Formula of speed :

speed = distance/time

Solution :

Distance = p-o

so, distance = 70962.0 - 67931.0

or, distance = 3031 km

10:10 can be written as 22:10 in 24 h system

so, time = 22:10 - 8:30

time = 13:40 h

  • 1 hour = 60 min

so, 13:40 = 820 min

so, time taken = 820 min or 13.6667 h

so,

1] speed = distance/time

or, speed = 3031/820

or, speed = 3.69 km/min

2] speed = distance/time

or, speed = 3031/13.6667

or, speed = 221.78 km/h
