Distance covered in 8 hrs. = 2400 - 2000 = 400 km

Time = 8 hrs.

Avg. speed = 400 / 8 = 50 km / hr

Avg. speed in m / s = 50 * 5 / 18 = 13.889 m / s

The odometer reads 2000 km at the start of the trip and 2400 km at the end of the trip if the trip took 8 hours.

Here,

Initial odometer reading (u) = 2000 km

Final odometer reading (v) = 2400 km

Total time (t) = 8 hours

Now,

Total distance = Final distance (v) - Initial distance (u)

OR

Total odometer reading = Final odometer reading (v) - Initial odometer reading (u)

= (2400 - 2000) km = 400 km

We know that,

Average speed = (Total distance)/(Total time)

= 400/8 = 50 km/hr

To convert it in m/s. Multiply with 5/18

= 50 × 5/18 = 13.88 m/s
