The answer/(indirect speech) of the question/(direct speech)-(The old lady said to her daughter,”Today I am preparing the clay model for you.”) is-
The old lady told her daughter that she(the old lady) was preparing a clay model for her(daughter) that day.
Why is this the answer?
At first, the “said to” is converted into “told” and the- “,” is converted into “that”.
Here, in the question, the reporting verb(The old lady said to her daughter) is in the past tense.
And the reported speech(Today I am preparing a clay model for you) is in the present continuous tense.
So, while we are converting the direct speech to the indirect, according to the grammar rules, the reported speech is converted into the past continuous tense while the reporting verb is in present continuous tense.
