Read the following diary entry of a little girl.
"I wish my father had a lot of money like the fathers of my friends. I wish my mother bought me
pretty and expensive dresses and shoes. Why do I have to wear my sister's old clothes? My friends
don't laugh at me but that is because they are all very polite. I feel ashamed to go to anybody's
birthday party in my dowdy clothes. I feel ashamed to invite anybody home. Everything is so plain
and ordinary
Yesterday I went to a friend's house. She showed me a new purse that her aunt had sent. It was so
pretty. I kept looking at it till my friend made a gift of it to me. I was happy to take it. But I haven't
told my parents. I feel they are going to be angry.
