no...the play starts with antonio's melancholic mood and then bassanio says antonio about his love for portia,and so he asks a loan from antonio  to go to belmont and win portia. However all the money that antonio possesses is tied up in his ships and he has no cash in hand so he advises bassanio to take a loan from a moneylender named shylock by using his(antonio) good name as credit.
