Organisms which feed on dead and decaying matter are commonly called as saprotrophs or saprophytes.
The most common example of saprotrophs would be fungi. Besides, there are many bacteria which follow saprotrophic mode of nutrition. Also, there exists some plants which are saprophytes.
Saprotrophs and saprophytes are good decomposers of organic and bio-wastes.
