The Bellini was invented between 1934 and 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. The drink was named Bellini by him because of its unique pink color which reminded him of the toga of a saint in a painting by 15th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini.
The original recipe came from Venice and had two parts Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) to one part white peach puree with a touch of raspberry or cherry juice, which gave the drink a unique translucent pink hue
