along with the muslim league tried to forge an agreement to unite the hindus and muslims but the problem was how the future assemblies would be elected. Discussions were going on regarding this matter and there were chances that hindus and muslims could be united. The leader of muslim league, Mohammad Ali Jinnah agreed to even compromise the demand of separate electorates . But demanded reserved seats the the legislative assemblies and representation according to population in state assemblies. But all hopes of uniting both hindus and muslims and efforts at compromise shattered when M.R. Jayakar, the head of hindu mahasabha denied all the efforts at compromise.

The Muslim league failed to respond to the call for united struggle as  there was an atmosphere of distrust between the two communities. The muslim leaders even expressed their concern about muslims becoming a minority in India and the culture of muslims being submerged under the hindu majority.
