Given : The outer dimensions of a closed wooden box are 20 cm  by 16 cm by 14 cm.

Thickness of wood is 2 cm.

1 cm³ of wood cost Rs. 3

To Find :  The total cost of wood

Solution:

Volume of wood required = Outer volume - Inner Volume

Volume of cuboid = length * breadth * height

outer dimensions 20 cm  by 16 cm by 14 cm.

Outer Volume = 20 * 16 * 14  = 4480 cm³

Thickness of wood is 2 cm.

Inner dimensions =  (20 - 2 - 2)  cm by (16 -2 - 2) cm by (14 -2 - 2) cm.

=16 cm  by 12 cm by 10 cm

Inner Volume = 16 * 12 * 10  = 1920  cm³

Volume of wood = 4480 - 1920   = 2560  cm³

1 cm³ of wood cost Rs. 3

=>  2560  cm³ of wood cost Rs. 3 * 2560   = 7680 Rs

The total cost of wood required  = Rs 7680
