The owner of a taxi company decides to run all the taxi on CNG fuel instead of petrol. The taxi charges in city comprise fixed charges together with with the charge for the distance covered. For a journey of 12km the charges is rs.89 and for a journey of 20km the charge is rs.145. Find how should be paid by a person who travels 30km??

Let the fixed charge be Rs x and

The charges for per km be Rs y

Therefore

x + 12 y = 89 ......... eqn 1

And

x + 20 y = 145 ........eqn 2

x + 12 y - x - 20 y = 89 - 145

8 y = 56

y = 7

Therefore x + 20 (7) = 145

x + 140 = 145

x = 5

Now , for 30 km

x + 30 y = 5 + 30 * 7

= 5 + 210

= 215
