When aluminum is kept in direct air,the oxygen present in air reacts and forms aluminum oxide. This oxide forms a layer over aluminum and prevents further reaction. iron mass will eventually convert entirely to rust and disintegrate. This is why the oxidation of iron rust is a problem but the oxidation of aluminum is not.
