x+2y=5 ________(1)
3x+12y =10 ________(2)

equation (1) is multiply by 3
3x + 6y= 15 _________(3)

equations (2) and (3) are substracted.....
3x+12y =10
3x + 6y= 15
- -. -
____________
6y = -5
Y = -5/6

the value of Y is kept in equation (1)
x+2y=5
X + 2(-5/6) = 5
X -(5/3) = 5
X = 5+(5/3)
X = (15+5)/3
X = 20/3

Proof of answer......
x+2y=5
(20/3) +2 (-5/6) = 5
(20/3) - ( 5/3) = 5
(20-5)/3 = 5
15/3 = 5
5 = 5
