Step-by-step explanation:

For trapezium ,

Area = 1/2 × (Sum of parallel sides ) × parallel distance

144 = 1/2 × ( 16 + 20 ) × parallel distance

288 = 36 × parallel distance

parallel distance = 288/36 = 8 cm

ANSWER:

  • Distance between parallel sides = 8cm

GIVEN:

  • Parallel side of a trapezium are 16 cm and 20 cm
  • Area of Trapezium = 144cm²

TO FIND:

  • Distance between parallel sides.

SOLUTION:

Formula

Area of Trapezium is given by :

 =   \dfrac{1}{2} (sum \: of \: parallel \: sides) \times height

Putting the values we get;

 \implies \:  \frac{1}{2} (16 + 20) \times h \:  = 144 \\   \\ \implies \:  \frac{1}{2} (36) \times h = 144 \\  \\   \implies \: 18 \times h = 144 \\  \\  \implies \: h =  \frac{144}{18}  \\  \\  \implies \: h  = 8 \: cm

  • Distance between parallel sides = 8cm

NOTE:

some important formulas:

  • Area of parallelogram = Base * Altitude
  • Area of rhombus = (sum of their diagonal)/2
  • OR (Base * Altitude)
  • Area of square = (Side)²
