The parallel sides of a trapezium are 25 cm and 13 cm. Its non-parallel sides are
being 10 cm. Find the area of the trapezium.
Let ABCD be the given trapezium in which
AB - 25 cm.
DC 13 cm PQ,
10 cm
AD BC -10 cm
-- -
et AP be x cm and the height of the trapezium be h em.
From the figure
-25e
BQ = 25-(PQ + AP)
Fig. 1422
25-13-x=12-X
24 APD.
Dp2 - DA? - AP2
h = 102-*
h = 100-x2
ABQC,
CQ2 =BC2-QB2
²= 10²-(12-x)²
=100-(144-24x +x2)
=100 - 144 +24x -x?
h²= 24x-x² – 44
m (1) and (2), we have
24x-x-44 = 100-x-
