Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

The Perimeter of a square is 40cm and a rectangle of length 20 cm has the same area as that of the square.

To find:-

Find the breadth of the rectangle ?

Solution:-

Perimeter of the square = 40 cm

we know that

The Perimeter of a square of the side "a" units is

4a units

=>4a=40

=>a=40/4

=>a=10

Length of the side of the square =10 cm

Area of a square of "a" units = a² sq.units

Area of the given square = 10² = 100 sq.cm

Length of the rectangle = 20 cm

Let the Breadth of the rectangle be "b" cm

Area of a rectangle whose length and breadth are "l" and "b" units is "lb" sq.units

=>20b sq.cm

According to the given problem

Area of the rectangle = Area of the square

=>20b=100

=>b=100/20

=>b=5

Therefore,b=5 cm

Answer:-

Side of the square = 10 cm

Breadth of the rectangle = 5cm

Check:-

Area of a square = 10×10=100 sq.cm

Area of a rectangle=20×5 = 100 sq.cm

Both areas are same.
