The part of amoeba which helps in capturing food is called pseudopodia.

This is a temporary cytoplasm-filled projection of an eukaryotic cellmembrane or a unicellular protist and they may or may not be used for motility, or for ingesting nutrients or other particulate matter.

Cells that make pseudopods are generally referred to as amoeboids which help them extend and contract by the reversible assembly of actin subunits into many microfilaments.

pseudopodia

The Function of Pseudopods. Pseudopods are actually extensions of the cytoplasm, or the thick liquid that is inside organisms like amoeba. The organism can change the shape of the pseudopod, making it move, appear, and disappear. The pseudopods are used in movement and as a tool to capture prey.
