Node is the area from where leaves arise.

Explanation:

All stems are formed with two parts nodes and internodes. Nodes are the parts from where buds, leaves and twigs are formed. The space between two nodes is called internodes.

The node can be identified easily in the stem as it is a scar in the wood. In the winter leaves fall from the nodes but the scar can be identified on the stem.
