The silver chloride precipitate formed by the reaction of silver nitrate and sodium chloride is insoluble in water, but it reacts with ammonia to form a coordination complex called diammine silver(I) chloride, which is much more soluble in water than silver chloride;-

AgCl + 2 NH3 → Ag(NH3)+2 + Cl−
