Answer:

There act two forces when an object moves in a circular motion.

The force which keeps an object in a circular path with constant speed acts towards the centre. This force is called CENTRIPETAL FORCE. This force pulls the object inwards.

Whereas the force which tends to free the object from centripetal force is called CENTRIFUGAL FORCE. This force tries to escape out to continue the straight line motion of the object.

Both these forces balance each other and hence the body moves in a circular motion.

Hence, if the centripetal force is absent, the smaller object will tend to move in straight line motion which will be the tangent to the circular path in which it was revolving.

For example - Earth attracts the moon towards it through centripetal force and the moon tries to escape this force using its own centrifugal force. Hence, moon revolves around earth. If earth's centripetal force was absent, the moon would pursue a straight line motion from the point the centripetal force became absent.

That's your answer.
