The net sown area in India depends on the amount of rainfall.

The region which is experiencing rainfall between 100 to 200 cm annually can harvest many crops.

Example: Kerala, coastal Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra.

The region which is experiencing less than 50 cm of rainfall annually can't cultivate crops and remain dry throughout the year.

Example: Western Rajasthan, Interior Karnataka, parts of Jammu & Kashmir.
