at equilibrium,

horizontal component of tension = ma

or, Tsinα = ma .....(1)

vertical component of tension = mg

or, Tcosα = mg ......(2)

from equations (1) and (2),

Tsinα/Tcosα = ma/mg

or, tanα = a/g

or, a = gtanα

given, angle made by pendulum with vertical, α = 30°

⇒ a = gtan30° = g/√3

hence, acceleration of pendulum on the carriage is g/√3 m/s²
