The pendulum of a clock is replaced by a spring-mass system with the spring having spring constant 0.10 N/m. What mass should be attached to the spring?

Time period of the Pendulum clock is 2 seconds.

Now, if the pendulum clock will be replaced by the Spring-mass system, the time period will not change.

Therefore,

T = 2π√m/k

2 = 2π√m/0.1

√0.1 = π√m

Therefore, m = 0.01 kg. = 10 g.

Hope it helps.

. k = 0.1 N/m

T = 2π √(m/k) = 2 sec

[Time period of pendulum of a clock = 2

sec]

So, 4π2+ (m/k) = 4

∴ m = k/π2 = 0.1/10 = 0.01kg = 10 gm.
