It is true.

The people of ancient Egypt and Nubia were completely isolated from others because of the surrounding deserts like Nubia Desert and Sahara Desert etc. Anyone find it very difficult either to trade with them or invade them because of these surrounding deserts. Nobody desired to conquer a territory which could take more logistics and fetch less resources. So these deserts along with cataracts in River Nile proved a natural barrier for these countries.
