Let the age of son be x years.

The father's age is 4 times the age of his son’s now.

Thus the present age of father is 4x

10 years ago, the father was 10 times as old as his son

10 years ago their ages, Son's age x - 10 years and father's age 4x - 10

(4x - 10) = 10 (x - 10)

4x - 10 = 10x - 100

4x - 10x = —100 + 10

--6x = —90

x = 90/6

x = 15

Son's present age is 15 years

Father's present age 4x = 4 × 15 = 60 years

Answer: father's present age is 60 years

Checking the correctness of answer by calculating their ages 10 years ago.

Son's age 10 years ago was 15 - 10 = 5 years ,

Father's age 10 years ago was 60 - 10 = 50 years

Father's age is 10 times of son's age.

It means answer is correct.
