The percentage of apple syrup in two bottles A and B of apple juice is 20% and 40% respectively and the rest water. Juice from bottles A and B are taken in the ratio 1 : 4 in a glass, and filled to half its capacity. The remaining part of glass is then filled by water, so as to make it full. What is the ratio of water to syrup in the glass?

_______Answer ______

2 identical glasses, i.e., having same shape and size.

Glass 1 has 13 milk and (1−13)=23 water

Milk to water ratio in glass 1 = 12

Similarly, glass 2 has 14 milk and (1−14)=34 water

Milk to water ratio in glass 2 = 13 .

Let the capacity of vessel be 6 litres (LCM of 2 & 3)

So, 1st glass has 13×6=2 litres milk and 23×6=4 litres water

Similarly, 2nd glass has 14×6=1.5 litres milk and 34×6=4.5 litres water

So, total quantity of milk in pot = (2+1.5)=3.5 litres and total quantity of water in pot =(4+4.5)=8.5 litres

Hence, milk to water ratio in pot is 3.58.5=7:17 or 717 .
