Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l+b)

                                26 =2 (a + b)

                              26/2=a+b

                                  13=a+b

                              13-b = a----------(1)

Area of rectangle= l x b

                    42= a x b-----(2)

putting value of a from eq. (1) in eq. (2) we get,

                     42= (13-b)b

                       42=13b-b²

                     b²-13b +42=0

                 b²-7b- 6b+42=0

                b (b-7) - 6 (b-7)=0

b-7=0  or  b-6=0

b=7   or  b=6

 Therefore, if b=6 then length is 7 units.

If b=7 then length is 6 units.
