The perimeter of a parallelogram is 180 cm. If one of the sides is longer than the other by 10 cm.

So ,

1 St side be x

2nd side =x+10

Perimeter =2x+2(x+10)

180 = 2x + 2x + 20

180=4x+20

4x=160

x=160/4

x=40

Hence 1 St side is 40 and other is 50 cm

Answer

Smaller side = 40 cm

Step by step explanation

Given -:

  • Perimeter of a parallelogram = 180 cm
  • One of the sides is greater than the other by 10 cm.

To Find -:

  • Length of smaller side of parallelogram

Solution -:

Let us assume Smaller side as x cm

Then, Longer side = (x + 10) cm

 \small\boxed{ \rm{Perimeter \:  of  \: a \:  parallelogram = 2(a + b)}}

 \small\rm{ 2(x + x + 10) = 180}

 ⟹\small\rm{2(2x + 10) = 180}

⟹ \small\rm{4x + 20 = 180}

⟹ \small\rm{4x = 180 - 20}

⟹ \small\rm{4x = 160}

⟹ \small\rm{x =  \frac{160}{4 }  = 40}

 \small \boxed{\rm{x = 40 }}

Smaller side = 40 cm

Larger side = (x + 10) = (40 + 10) = 50 cm
