Let the smaller side be 'x'

And let the longer side be 'x+8'

Perimeter=sum of all sides=36cm

x+x+x+8+x+8=32

4x + 16= 32

4x=16

x=4

Ans- Longer side is x+8= 12cm

Given,

The perimeter of a parallelogram = 36 cm

Length of the smaller side = 8 cm

To find,

The length of the longer side.

Solution,

We can simply solve this mathematical problem using the following process:

Let us assume that the length of the longer side of the parallelogram is x cm.

Mathematically,

The perimeter of a parallelogram

= 2 × (sum of its two adjacent sides)

= 2 × (larger side + smaller side){Statement-1}

Now, according to the question;

The perimeter of the parallelogram = 36 cm

=> 2 × (larger side + smaller side) = 36 cm

=> (larger side + smaller side) = (36 cm)/2 = 18 cm

=> (x cm + 8 cm) = 18 cm

=> x + 8 = 18

=> x = 18-8

=> x = 10 cm

=> length of the longer side = 10 cm

Hence, the length of the longer side is equal to 10 cm.
