G I V E N :

The perimeter of a parallelogram is 80cm. If the longer side is 10 cm greater than the shorter side. Find the length of the sides of the parallelogram.

S O L U T I O N :

GivEn that

Perimeter of the parallelogram is 80 cm

Let us assume

The shorter side of the parallelogram be x

According to the question,

The longer side is 10 cm more than the shorter side

So,

The longer side be x + 10 cm

Formula for perimeter of parallelogram

 \star \:  \underline{ \boxed{  \red{  \frak{{ \sf P}erimeter_{({ \sf P}arallelogram)}=2(Length+Breadth)}}}}

Now, putting the values in the given formula we get :

\twoheadrightarrow  \frak{{ \sf P}erimeter_{( {\sf P}arallelogram)}=2(x +10 \: cm + x )}

\twoheadrightarrow \frak{80 \: cm = 2(2x + 10 \: cm)}

\twoheadrightarrow\frak{80  \: cm = 4x + 20 \: cm}

\twoheadrightarrow \frak{4x = 80 \: cm - 20 \: cm}

\twoheadrightarrow \frak{4x = 60 \: cm}

 \twoheadrightarrow \frak{x =  \frac{60}{4} \: cm }

\twoheadrightarrow \frak{x = \cancel \frac{60}{4} \: cm }

\star \:  \underline{ \boxed{ \green{  \frak{x = 15 \: cm}}}}

Finding Lengths

Length of the shorter side = x = 15 cm

Length of the longer side = x + 10 cm = 15 cm + 10 cm = 25 cm
