Given:

  • The perimeter of a rectancle is 70cm. if its length exceeds its breadth by 5cm.

To Find:

  • The dimension of the rectangle.

Formula used:

  • Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(length+breadth)

Diagram:

Required Solution:

Let the breadth of the rectangle be x

According to the Question,

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Length = (x + 5) cm

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(l + b)

= 2[(x + 5)+ x] cm

= 2(2x + 5) cm

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2(2x + 5) = 70

➟ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2x + 5 = 70/2

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2x + 5 = 35

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2x = 35 – 5

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2x = 30

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ x = 30/2

➟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ x = 15

Hence,

  • Breadth of the rectangle = 15cm
  • Length of the rectangle = (15 + 5) = 20cm

perimeter =70cm

Let the breath be x,

so,length =x+5

(x+5)+(x)=70cm

2x +5=70cm

2x=70-5

2x=65cm

x=65/2=32.5

so,breath =32.5

length =32.5+5=37.5cm
