Let the length of a rectangle = a cm.

breadth of the rectangle = b cm

2(a+b)=40

a+b=20 ----------------> (1)

ab=96 ----------------> (2)

(a-b)^2 = (a+b)2 - 4ab

(a-b)^2 = 20^2 - 4x96

400 - 384 = 16

a-b = 4 ----------------> (3)

On adding eq^n (1) & (3)

2a = 24

a = 24/2

a = 12

put a = 12 in eq^n (1)

12 + b = 20

b = 20 - 12

b = 8 cm

Length = 12 cm, breadth = 8 cm
