As we know that

Perimeter of Rectangle (P) = 2 * (length + breadth)

ie. P = 2*(l+b)

=> 40 = 2 * (12 + b)

=> 20 = 12 + b

=> 20 - 12 = 12 - 12 + b (Subtract 12 from both side)

=> 8 = b
