Answer:

Perimeter = 2×(length + breadth) = 44cm.

so, length + breadth = 22cm.

Let breadth be x.

so length = 2x+4

2x+4+x = 22

3x = 22 - 4 = 18.

x= 18/3 = 6. length = 2×6 + 4 = 16

Area = length × breadth

= 6 × 16 = 96 cm²

OR you can do it with 2 variables too,

Let length = x and breadth = y,

x = 2y + 4 ..1

x+y = 22, then (x+y)² = x² + y² +2xy = 22² ..2

put equation 1 in equation 2, we get,

9y² + 24y -468 = 0

3y² + 8y -156 = 0

y = (-8 ± √(8²-4×3×-156))/2×3

y = (-8 ± 44)/6

y = 6 and y = -26/3.

y cannot be negative. so y = 6.

x + 6 = 22

x = 22-6 = 16

so area of the rectangle = length × breadth

= 6 × 16 = 96 cm²
