the perimeter of a rectangle is 52 cm.If it width is 2 cm more than one-third of its length,find the dimensions of rectangle.

Given perimeter = 52cm
Let length = l and breadth = l/3 + 2
as we know, perimeter = 2(l+b)
⇒ 52 = 2(l + l/3+2) 
⇒52 = 2( 4l+6)/3
⇒52/2 = 4l+6
⇒26x 3 = 4l+6
⇒78-6= 4l
⇒72/4= l ∵ l=18cm
thus, b= 18/3+2 = 8cm.
hence, 
dimensions of rectangle are 8 and 18cm.
