The perimeter of a rectangle is 52cm. If its width is 2cm more than one-third of its length, find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Answer:

Let the length of rectangle be xcm.

then breadth = 1/3x+2cm.

A/Q

2 (L+B)=52.

2 (x+1/3x+2)=52

2 (4x/3+2)=52

2 (4x+6/3)=52

8x+12/3=52

8x+12= 52×3 (by cross multiplication).

8x+12=156

8x=156-12

8x=144.

x=144÷8

x=18.

therefore length of rectangle=18cm.

and breadth=1/3×18+2

18/3+2=24/3 cm.

=8cm.
