The perimeter of a rectangle is 54cm. One side is x cm long and the other is 6cm longer. a) Form an equation involving x b) Solve the equation and write down the length of each of the sides.

Answer:

perimeter = 54cm

one side = x

another side = x + 6

a) equation :

perimeter = 2(l+b)

54 cm = 2( x + x + 6)

b) solving the equation

54 cm = 2(2x + 6)

54cm/2 = 2x + 6

27 cm - 6 = 2x

x = 21/2

x = 10.5 cm

one side = 10.5 cm

other side = 10.5 cm + 6cm

= 16.5 cm
