The perimeter of a rectangle piece of land is 140m. the size of the land is decreased due to the expansion of the road and the new length and breadth of the land is equal to 17/20 and 13/15 m times the original length and breath respectively. if the new perimeter of the land is 120m. find the original length and breadth.

Answer:

original l = 80 m original b = 60 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Let original length l = x m

Let original breath b = y m

P = 140 m

x + y = 140 ...(i)

Given , new length L = 17x/20

new breadth B = 13y/15

17x/20 + 13y/15 = 120

(51 x + 52 y)/60 = 120

51 x + 52 y = 120 ...(ii)

Multiply 52 to eq. (i) and subtract eq. (ii) from (i)

52x - 52y - (51x + 52y)=7280 - 7200

x = 80 m

x + y = 140

y = 140 - x

y = 140 -80

y = 60 m
