The perimeter of a rectangular field is 84m. If the length of the field is increased by 3m and its breadth decreased by 1m then the area of the field is increased by 15 sq m. Find the length and breadth of the field.

let the length of the rectangular field be l metres

let the breadth of the rectangular field be b metres

Area of rectangular field=l*b

perimeter =2(l+b)

According to the question,

2(b+l)=84

b+l=84/2=42 ----1

when length is increased by 3m and breadth is decreased by 1

(l+3)*(b-1)=lb+15

lb-l+3b-3=lb+15

3b-l=lb-lb+15+3

3b-l=18 ----2

add 1 and 2

  b+l=42

+ 3b-l=18

4b=60

b=15

put b=15 in 1.

15+l=42

l=27

length of the field =l=27 metres

breadth of the field=b=15 metres
