perimeter of 1st square = 4a

perimeter of 2nd square = 4b

4a - 4b =12

a - b = 3

area of squares = a² and b² respectively

a² - b²= 39

a² - b² = (a+b)(a-b)

39 = (a + b) (3)

a + b = 13

a - b = 3

2a = 16

a = 8

b = 5

perimeter of 1st = 4a = 32

perimeter of 2nd = 4b = 20
