It means side of square is p+3q.

Area of square is a^2.

A=(p+3q)^2

A=p^2+9q^2+6pq

4a = 4(p+3q)
a =(p+3q)
area \:  =  {a}^{2}  \\  {a}^{2}  =  {(p + 3q)}^{2}  \\ area \:  =  {p}^{2}  + 9 {q}^{2}  + 6pq
