Perimeter of a square = 4a (where a=side length)

40=4*a

Hence a=10cm

Now, Area= a^2

Area= (10)^2 = 10*10

Area= 100 cm^2

Given:

  • The perimeter o the square = 40 cm

To Find:

  • The side and area of the square.

Solution:

1. To find the side of the square.

We know that,

perimeter of a square = 4×side → {equation 1}

On substituting the values in equation 1 we get,

⇒ 40 = 4×side

⇒ side = 40/4 {dividing the terms}

⇒ side = 10 cm

2. To find the area of the square.

We know that,

Area of square = side×side → {equation 2}

Now substitute the values in equation 2, we get,

⇒ Area of the square = 10×10 = 100 cm^2 { multiplying the terms}

∴ The side of the square = 10 cm and the area of the square = 100cm^2.
